On an offshore drilling rig, the Blow Out Preventer (BOP) is attached to the top of the surface casing on a subsea well.
The BOP controls the pressure during drilling and in deeper water it is controlled via a Multiplexer, which is linked to the drilling rig by a "Mux Cable".
The Mux Cable provides power and a communication link with the electronics on the BOP.
